ABOUT DAN HOLLANDER
FROM WORLD TEAM SKATER TO COACH & SKATE TECH
Dan Hollander is a two-time U.S. National bronze medalist, two-time World Team member, professional figure skater, figure skating coach and skate technician based in Germantown, Maryland.
With more than 35 years of coaching experience and nearly a decade performing with Champions on Ice, Dan brings an elite skater’s understanding of performance to every part of the sport — from coaching and choreography to skate sharpening, blade work and EDEA boot fitting and shaping.

IN THE BEGINNING
It Started at the Rink
I started skating at age four when my mother brought me to the roller rink with my older sister’s Brownie troop. I loved it so much that she bought me a pair of hockey skates from a garage sale and enrolled me in lessons at the local ice rink.
A year later, I saw my first Champions on Ice show and watched Scott Hamilton skate in a chicken suit. I remember thinking, “How cool would it be to make people laugh like that?”
I had no idea at the time, but years later I would be touring with that same show — and performing alongside Scott.
FROM NATIONAL COMPETITOR TO WORLD TEAM
Years of Dedication
I spent the next several years training, competing and working my way through the test levels. By 16, I had progressed from a double axel through the triple jumps and was competing nationally.
I won a national medal as a junior, and in 1996 placed third at the U.S. Senior National Championships, earning a place on the World Team. I competed at the World Championships that year and went on to earn another national bronze medal and World Team selection in 1997.
But competitive skating turned out to be only one chapter.
FROM WORLD TEAM TO CHAMPIONS ON ICE
After my third-place finish at the U.S. Championships, I caught the attention of Champions on Ice founder Tom Collins. What began as an invitation to perform in 14 shows eventually became 47 — and ultimately nearly a decade as a full cast member.
I performed in more than 1,000 shows, traveling throughout the United States and around the world alongside Olympic, World and National champions.
In 2000, I won the American Open Professional Championship. But some of my favorite moments weren't about medals. They were about entertaining an audience — whether I was skating as a janitor, Mrs. Doubtfire, Santa Claus or simply finding a way to make thousands of people laugh.
Performing Around the World
I’ve been teaching since 1989. Coaching has given me the opportunity to take what I learned as a competitive and professional skater and pass it on to the next generation — not just technique, but performance, choreography and an understanding of how a skater moves on the ice.
That same experience eventually led me deeper into the equipment side of the sport. Blade alignment, sharpening, mounting and boot fit can fundamentally change how a skater performs.
Today, my work combines those worlds: Coach Dan on the ice and a Master Skate Technician and EDEA specialist off it — helping skaters get more from both their skating and their equipment.
